How To Invest In A Wardrobe Staple

I am all about budget finds as you know. I normally limit my spending by purchasing multiple smaller items. That way I can have more clothes by not spending as much. Another way to get more bang for your buck is to invest in a “wardrobe staple” or two per season.

The first thing to consider when investing is making sure that that piece can be styled multiple different ways. For example, I was able to style this Free People Easy Street tunic 7 different ways! Another thing to consider is that the item is versatile and can be worn both in dressy and casual situations. To ensure that you won’t regret it, make sure its something you have thought about for a while and is not an impulse buy. Lastly, make sure that it fits into your budget! At the end of the day, clothes are just material possessions and will not make you happier or more complete.

I usually splurge every year on a nice sweater. Free people is one of my favorite brands to splurge on because I know that I am getting great quality for my money. They are my weakness! A couple of years ago I bought the Ottoman tunic and wore it so many times! I finally had to give it away to goodwill because it had so many stains on it from over wearing! Mostly pizza and pasta sauce – haha!

I have been eyeing the easy street tunic for a while now, since the Nordstrom Anniversary sale, but was not ready to pull the trigger quite yet. It finally got marked down 50% off during Black Friday – which is the lowest I’ve seen it priced – so I finally broke down and made my purchase. You know I can’t resist a deal like that!

As soon and I received this tunic in the mail, I decided to try to style it with the clothes that I already have and make as many outfits as I possibly could. It helps me to justify spending so much money on one piece of clothing! I went with my true size (medium) as I know this sweater is meant to be oversized and that is just the way I like it. I definitely could have fit into the small, but they didn’t have that size in stock when I ordered it.

I am so glad that I decided to splurge on this wardrobe staple! Besides its versatility, I love the way that it drapes and how you can wear it tucked or untucked. I will definitely be wearing this for years until i have to eventually retire it from my closet due to all the stains from wearing it non-stop!

Do you have any other principles when you are wanting to invest in your wardrobe. If so, I would love to hear how in the comments!
